Alien life

I see them looking at me and wonder:
"Do they know? Do they see that I don't belong? That I am an alien?"
I shake these thoughts from my head and look back down at the paper in front of me
I half wonder if I could get away with writing in my native tongue
Probably not
They would just tell me to write in normal "English" like a normal person
Wonder if they realise just how hard it is to learn English as a second language for some people
I know they don't but a kid can dream right?
I go home and try to do my homework, I quit because I can't understand it
No matter how hard I try I can't make it
I listen to some music
It helps
Until people give me strange glances when they can hear the lyrics
They ask what kind of crap that is
I tell them simply that it's rock
They laugh and turn to each other to whisper secrets and hurt into each other's ears
God I hate the fact that I'm not born and bred
I am an immigrant
Though most would say that I'm an alien
Do I look like ET or Spock to you?
My accent attracts the attention of the young and they ask me why I speak so funny
I laugh (though inside I cry) and say:"I'm not from around here"
Their parents appologise profusely
I tell them that it's ok, kids will be kids
It hurts me though that people don't understand that the world is a beautiful tapestry
There are so many different colours and accents
So many cultures and dreams
So why is it that Americans believe that they are the only ones on the face of the earth?
Why do they force us to forget who we are?
