Thieves

Thieves are all around us if we would just care to look
Friends and relatives, strangers and ourselves we are all the thieves of something
What kind of thief are you?
Nay, not I says you but you just hide your thefts beneath your cloak
Hiding your sins from the world and those you have wronged.

Thieves of hope, thieves of wisdom, even thieves of dreams
They prowl about this ever night like vampires looking to feed, draining you to the last drop
You still do not believe me?
Then you must be blind walking these streets to not see all the thefts
The thieves of lives lay in prisons waiting for their turn to die
The thieves of dreams say nay until they meet death who says aye

Yet you still do not believe me?
How foolish you must be not to see the plague that surrounds you!
The plague of thieves and heartaches that all have felt
It follows you at every turn

Are you willing to deny the sky though it is plainly in view?
Do you deny that I am here in front of you?
Then why do you deny the plague of the ages?
So now do you believe me?

My question still stands my foolish friend: what kind of thief are you?
A thief of hope, a thief of love, are you the thief of dreams?
Or have you fallen victim too?
Betrayed by those you loved and trusted?

Tell me, am I getting close to the source of your distrust?
Tell me of your thieves and what from you they have stolen
Let me help you find them and bring back those precious jewels they stole

What kind of thief am I?
Well I am a thief of my own dreams, for I write all I dream.
So fear not you have nothing I can steal
I return to others what is rightfully theirs in return I keep my sanity and clarity

I'm glad I am no longer the only one who sees
The only one who knows what this dark world holds beneath its glamour
I'm glad you can see the thieves as they hunt and the prey praying for the endless dark to end
I'm glad you can see
